We use our intensive knowledge and experience in antique restoration to refinish and restore doors and windows throughout the DC area.
Our signature process involves bringing your door to our shop. This is done for a few reasons. In order to make sure you have a lasting finish, we bring your exterior door down to the bare wood whilst maintaining the integrity of the door.
We do this using an industrial finish remover (stripper) and cleaning with a lacquer thinner. This process is done by hand to ensure that we do not penetrate beyond the surface of the wood.
We then very lightly sand the door and hand wipe a stain that will add depth to the wood grain.
We then apply several coats of our signature exterior varnish to bring out the beauty of your door while protecting it from the elements.
Though we do have a different process for refinishing on-site if required, door restoration and refinishing is always best done while the door is lying flat. It takes several coats and a few days for the finish to fully cure and dry to give your door the protection it needs.
